Battery on an Official

first_imgThere is a senate bill pending in the Indiana General Assembly that would increase the penalty for any person attacking an IHSAA official during a high school ball game.  The senate bill was introduced by Lonnie Rudolph, a democrat from East Chicago.  At the present time, an attack is classified as a B misdemeanor which could result in a 6-month sentence and a $1,000 fine.Mr. Rudolph would like to raise this to a class A misdemeanor which at the present time carries a 1-year sentence and $5,000 fine.  His proposal would keep it a class A misdemeanor but raise the penalty to a possible 6-year sentence and $10,000 fine.  Most of this stems from an incident that took place in a high school basketball game earlier this year in the East Chicago district.I am not opposed to raising the penalty, but I wonder if his suggestion might be a little steep to get the bill passed.  Let’s hope they do compromise on some stricter penalties for fan attacks on any official.last_img read more

Toure pens new four-year deal

first_img Press Association Toure joined City from Barcelona in July 2010 on a five-year deal which saw him link up with his older brother Kolo, who joined the club from Arsenal the previous year. The midfielder, who has won the Champions League, two La Liga titles, a Barclays Premier League trophy, the FA Cup and Copa Del Rey during his career, revealed his decision to stay at City rests on his desire to claim more silverware. “I want to continue winning titles and trophies and continue to make history,” Toure said. “I have enjoyed all of my time here and can’t wait for the next chapter. This is an incredible club to be part of with fans that support a team to the end, whatever the circumstances. “I will never forget how I have been treated here by the fans, the club and the owners and nothing would give me greater pleasure than to finish my career as a Manchester City player. “Of course now it looks likely that we will not successfully defend the Premier League title and that is sad for all of us, but we can still finish second and win the FA Cup for a second time in three years and that is still an achievement for a club that won nothing for a long time. “We must try to finish on a high note and then start preparing to win more next season. Football is always a challenge and always a puzzle to solve and that is why we all love the game. You have to use your skill, intelligence and strength to constantly improve and that is what we at City intend to do.” Toure, who turns 30 in May, pledged his future to the Barclays Premier League side with the new long-term deal which was confirmed on Thursday afternoon. “This is where I want to be,” Toure told the club’s official website. “When I first arrived at City, every time I went to sleep I would dream about us winning something. Now it is about us being the best team in whatever competition we take part in.” center_img Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has signed a new four-year contact to keep him at the club until 2017.last_img read more

Indian Premier League Virat Kohli reflects on ‘pain’ of Royal Challengers Bangalore losing six consecutive IPL 2019 games

first_imgRajasthan Royals are currently at the bottom of the table in IPL 2019.Royal Challengers Bangalore’s next game is against Delhi Capitals.Kings XI Punjab will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in a crucial clash. highlights New Delhi: Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore had made a disastrous start to the 2019 Indian Premier League by losing six consecutive games, equaling Delhi Daredevils’ worst losing streak. The team was down and out and it seemed they would once again finish with the wooden spoon. However, Royal Challengers Bangalore staged a spectacular comeback, winning four out of the next five games as they still remained in the hunt for the playoffs. Following their win over Kings XI Punjab, Kohli spoke about how the six consecutive losses at the start of the tournament affected the team and how they have staged a comeback since.“Yeah, we’ve won four of the five. Could have been five out of five. We were just looking to enjoy cricket and tonight was a great example of having fun. We know how we play. The world knows how we play. Losing six in a row really hurt us. Literally, no one in the team has been part of such a streak. So we just refreshed, thought about just enjoying ourselves and the important thing now is not to take on any pressure,” Kohli said. With Royal Challengers Bangalore staging a comeback, Kings XI Punjab is in the midst of a slump having lost four out of their last five games. Ravichandran Ashwin, the Kings XI Punjab skipper said the bowling in the powerplay left a lot to be desired and added that experience in the middle order could have helped them chase down 204.“If we had more experience in the middle order, we could have done something. We are right into it (playoffs). It’s all about getting one win and we’ll get on a roll. Like RCB. It’s important to keep trust in the players. We’ve held on to the same batting order through the tournament. Giving players a chance. It’s really important to back the players. We were always in the game. We haven’t been outplayed by any opposition. The one area we need to work on is Powerplay bowling and the death overs. It’s time the bowlers stood up there,” Ashwin said.Kings XI Punjab will now take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Uppal while Royal Challengers Bangalore face a crucial encounter against Delhi Capitals at the Feroz Shah Kotla on April 28.last_img read more

Mike DeWine and longtime boxing promoter Bob Arum led a cavalcade of sports leagues, federations, businesses and teams that navigated a federal loan program designed to help small firms cope with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.Data released Monday showed hundreds of thousands of Paycheck Protection Program recipients across a wide range of industries, and sports-related businesses were well represented. However, none of the four major North American sports leagues — the NFL, NBA, NHL and Major League Baseball — were among the businesses that applied, according to the data.Big 3 Basketball LLC, a Los Angeles-based 3-on-3 basketball league co-founded by Ice Cube, received $1.6 million and returned $700,000, Jeremy Watkins, a spokesman for the company, told The Associated Press. The remaining $600,000 was used to pay coaches and players for this season and ensure the league could play its 2021 season. At least four Major League Soccer teams tapped the PPP program, according to the data: D.C. United and Inter Miami were approved for loans in the $1 million to $2 million range, while Orlando City and the Seattle Sounders each applied for between $2 million and $5 million.Under the PPP, Congress created $659 billion in low-interest loans that will be forgiven if employers use the money on payroll, rent and similar expenses. It’s the richest contract in professional sports history, surpassing Mike Trout’s $426.5 million deal with the Los Angeles Angels. The Chiefs had the 2018 NFL MVP under contract for the next two seasons but that wasn’t nearly enough. The contract extension starts in 2022 when the NFL salary cap is projected to be $227.5 million. However, that number could be lower depending on revenue losses due to the cornonavirus pandemic and the possibility any games played this season won’t have fans.
