VESTAL (WBNG) – Mia Gaylord has been a girl scout since kindergarten and has been playing golf since the 3rd grade. center_img Still participating in Girl Scouts, Gaylord had to do a project to receive her gold award. The project had to be centered around something that would help the community. “When it first started I almost didn’t think it was going to happen because of the school’s budget,” said Gaylord. “But once we got it started we all really enjoyed our time and it was rewarding to see it all come together.” When she got to Vestal High School there was no girls’ golf team. Gaylord told 12 News she had to join the boys’ team if she wanted to continue playing the sport she loved. “I’ve had to document my time that I’ve worked on the project and then I submit a final report to them when I’m done and they approve if I get the award or not,” said Gaylord.last_img read more

Lewis, Powell and Holder record ODI Ranking rise

first_img(CMC) – OPENER Evin Lewis, all-rounder Rovman Powell and captain Jason Holder have all managed to move up in the ICC one-day players rankings, despite West Indies’ dismal showing in the recent three-match series.Left-hander Lewis jumped 11 places in the batting rankings to 65th while Powell also climbed 11 spots to be 127th.Holder, meanwhile, leapt six places to be on the brink of the top 20 in the bowling rankings at 21st.The trio’s movement comes on the heels of the Caribbean side’s 3-0 whitewash at the hands of New Zealand where they found themselves completely outplayed. However, Lewis was one of two Windies batsmen in the series with half-centuries, scoring 76 in the opening match in Whangarei which the visitors lost by five wickets. The Trinidadian finished the series with 86 runs from two matches – the most by a Windies player.Powell was also among the runs in the first game scoring an attacking 59, a knock which marked his maiden half-century in ODIs.Seamer Holder finished as the joint highest wicket-taker for the Windies with five wickets, alongside left-arm speedster Sheldon Cottrell who also picked up the same number of scalps.Indian stroke-maker Virat Kohli leads an unchanged top 10 in the batting rankings while Pakistani paceman Hasan Ali continues to head the bowling rankings.last_img read more

Džeko keen on Bundesliga return

first_imgManchester City forward Edin Džeko has denied claims he has held talks over a move to Borussia Dortmund but confirmed he would love to return to the Bundesliga.Džeko, who won the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg in 2009, has long been linked with a move back to Germany after failing to fully establish himself in the first-team at City.In an interview with kicker magazine, the 26-year-old said: “I love the Bundesliga and I will return to the Bundesliga. The only thing I don’t know is when.”In recent weeks, there have been reports that Dortmund are leading the race for his services as speculation persists that Robert Lewandowski will depart the Westfalenstadion. However, Džeko dismissed claims he had met with Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp and club officials at a hotel outside the German city recently.“That’s not true,” he said. “There is a lot of talk and a lot is written. If you believed every word, I’d be playing at FC Bayern or AC Milan by now.”Even so, Džeko did little to hide his admiration for Dortmund and is tipping Klopp’s men to reach the Champions League final. The German champions, who took four points from City as they finished top of Group D, are well-placed to reach the quarter-finals after securing a 2-2 draw away to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of their second-round tie.“I knew Borussia from the Bundesliga,” he said. “Essentially, I knew nearly everything about the team but, all the same, they managed to impress me.“Borussia showed how strong they are. They lost Shinji Kagawa [to Manchester United] ahead of the season, but now they have Marco Reus, who might be even better. Dortmund are a top club. Everyone in Europe was able to see that. With Jurgen Klopp, they have a great coach working there. This team can go a long way.“I am convinced Borussia will make it into the final. That’s my wish for the club. Anyone who comes out on top of a group with Real Madrid in such fashion can beat anyone.”The BiH international also said he was flattered to have received praise from Klopp in the past.“When it comes from one of the best coaches in Europe, I’m delighted, of course,” he said.Speaking to Sky on Sunday, Dortmund CEO Aki Watzke also tried to cool the Džeko rumours and claimed there were 100 to 150 Bundesliga players to look at, adding he would not comment any names.last_img read more
